The double bed in my room was two single mattresses joined together with a type of sticky tape. It sunk severely in the middle and was grossly uncomfortable. Im a bloke that can handle a bit of discomfort but that was a joke. Staff at hotel just shrugged and smiled when I asked if anything could be done. Would not stay there again.
The service was very good , we didn't have any problems at all . I would recomend this hotel to anyone that needs a good room for the night at a good price. Thank you very much for a enjoyable stay.
The room (401) was located next to the lift and the noise of the doors opening/closing was clearly heard in the room. The shower would stop if the shower head was moved at a higher elevation (ie the pressure head was not sufficient). The telephone speed buttons did not work. We found we could not use the lift because it was being loaded with baggage from a coach party and we had to use the stairs from the foyer to our room on the 4th floor. The room had not been cleaned when we came back to the room at 14.30. We informed reception that this is not acceptable. A disappointing experience.
Location was good. Rooms were a little tired, lift was old and slow and the hotel was a little like a rabbit warren, but it was clean and comfortable and well priced. Most of the staff were excellent, the fellow on checkin wasn't particularly helpful or friendly but the other staff were very helpful.
Rooms were stuffy - a fan in the room would have been good. You could open the window, however it was noisy with the window open and really windy.
An excellent price for a good central city hotel.
Use of large gym facilities was good
Prices of room service and restaurant where too expensive for quality of food provided
Good location within short walking distance into main centre yet aliitle out of the way, fairly quiet area. My room was clean and comfortable and at a good price. Would reccommend to family and friends.
Nothing really, had to request service for the bar every time you wanted a drink.
Was looking for reasonable accommodation while going to WOW with my daughter. Needed twin share and few places showed that option when I was looking on line. The room was very sunny during the afternoon and although street facing was quiet during the night. Polite staff at reception. Functional room
Also wanted a place we could walk to town and to the show. The Mercure was further away from the main shopping centre for walking to and from regularly during our shopping time though we did manage it!.. On arrival from the airport I was a bit worried about the outside appearance as it looked tired and the reception area was too (carpet through the door for the staff was threadbare and made the area look a bit run down). The Dunedin Mercure hotels look more upmarket so I guess I was a bit surprised at its exterior and street entrance. It was a plain but clean room (though the toilet did have a 'smell' about it - stale urine we thought, which was improved by frequent spraying of my perfume - not a major though) and functional. W
Excellent service in the dining room for dinner, lovely warm spacious rooms. Really appreciated the service from the night staff when the tv broke down in room 404.
Felt reception staff lacked friendly personality and check in and check out was unnecessarily long winded. As a hotel receptionist myself I felt staff could have been more dynamic in this process. The shower in room 404 was dirty and needed a decent clean around the edges to get rid of scunge. The bathroom in room 405 smelt very stongly of urine.
We were impressed with it's fresh look and cleanliness. Freshly painted, nice bathroom- very clean and neat. The double glazing, although retro fitted made the room nice and quiet so we slept well. Obviously not a 5 star hotel, but very nice for someone wanting the basics presented well for a good price. We also enjoyed the fact that we got a 3 nights for 2 special!
The only thing I thought spoilt the fresh look was that on the 3rd floor there had been paint or something spilt on the obviously quite new carpet in the hall. That made it look a bit shabby. Not too sure about the wobbly lift! The parking isn't great - luckily we had a little hatch back rental, and on a rainy weekend, the walk to the funeral home carpark was a bit annoying with bags. But I guess that's part of the charm of the Wellington terrain.
booked a twin room,my friend and i get there and its 2 singles pushed together to make a king size. asked reception to be changed at 9am we get back to hotel at 6pm and wasnt done we had to ask housekeeping the women replyed "well no one told me" in a way as if it was to much trouble.we then waited 20mins for her to strip beds. Very long walk from hotel to town!
Clean modern rooms, no complaint about facilities, good value for money and good enough for a small one night stay in between locations.
Free parking included in deal - there are about 15 spaces which are crammed together and fill up quickly and are very hard to navigate in and out of - luck of the draw whether you turn up and can get a good spot. Also be aware it is a but out of the way of the city and the other hotels (which are mainly around The Terrace/Lambton Quay and surrounding areas) and it is a moderate walk to get anywhere of interest (why the hotel is cheaper). Also car parking is very expensive in Wellington city so bringing a car to compensate for this slight distance is not helpful.
The value for money, as i was able to book the room online cheaply, but i would not have paid anymore than what i did for it.
We ordered room service at approx 12 midnight and about 10 mins after that we had a fire evacuation due to the fire alarm being set off. we were out of our room for about 30 mins. Our room service finally arrived at 1.45 after 2 phone calls about it and then the order arriving slightly incorrect. also the chair that was at our desk in our room looked like it had been collected from the dump. it was ripped and torn all along the edge and did not look very good at all.
Staff friendly. Breakfast good with great breakfast waiter
Room not being serviced was unacceptable
Handy for the purpose of my visit.
